Dog Kennels Guide
Dog kennels are a great way to provide shelter and security for your puppy or dog. A dog kennel can be a boarding place where you leave your dog when you go on vacation, a portable kennel that you transport him in, or a permanent home that is outside in your backyard. You may need one or all three types of dog kennels for your dog and your particular situation.
Your dog having his own kennel gives you the security of knowing that he is well provided for and safe. You won’t have concerns that he will jump the backyard fence or end up in fights with neighbor dogs or chase after young children. If you properly introduce your dog to his kennel and provide some training he will be very happy in his kennel and consider it home.
There are some things you need to consider if you want to build the dog kennel on your own. Be sure that you build the kennel in a place where your dog will be well protected from any elements such as extreme cold, heat, snow, rain or wind. Dogs that spend a great deal of time outdoors will need to have proper shelter and have the ability to stay cool during the summer and warm during the winter.
Also make sure that the kennel always contains fresh water for your dog. He will also need to have something comfortable to lie down on such as a blanket or dog bed. Flooring should also be installed in the kennel to keep your dog dry.
If you are building or setting up a dog kennel out in the yard you need to be give some thought to the size. It needs to be big enough so that your dog has sufficient space for moving around so that he isn’t too confined. For puppies remember to add extra space to account for his growth.
Another type of dog kennel that you may want to consider is a portable kennel. This can be used to transport your pet when you are traveling. You can find a wide range of dog kennels at pet stores to choose from.
When buying a portable kennel for your dog, just be sure that it is the right size. There are some pretty standard sizes that portable kennels come in and usually are not very difficult to set up and then dismantle when you are not using them. If your dog is large it might be necessary to special order a portable kennel that will fit him.
There are also dog kennels called boarding kennels. These are businesses which specialize in boarding your dog when you are gone on vacation. If you decide to leave your dog at a boarding kennel be sure to thoroughly research the property and business before leaving your dog there.
