We moved into our home 5 years ago and the first thing on my to do list was to purchase bar stools. You see we now had a wonderful, large open kitchen to work with. The counter is L shaped and quite spacious. Counter height bar stools would be the perfect addition.

We had three children at the time who were 2, 4, and 7. This took a lot of time at mealtimes. We had to set the table before meals, clean the table after meals, and then try to get all the crumbs from the chairs and cracks. Even after that, we had to carry all of the cups and dishes over to the kitchen sink. This was for every meal the kids had. It wasn’t very much fun and it took a lot of time away from family after dinner.

If my children could eat right at the kitchen counter for some meals, this would make those meals so much easier and faster. This would be a nice break from all of the clean up. I decided to start shopping for a few kitchen counter stools. There were plenty out there, but none within my budget. It was tight due to the recent move.

I was going to shop for at least four stools, but I knew I couldn’t spend $75+ per counter stool. I noticed there were so many choices when it came to bar stools. There were decisions to be made, especially with small children. As tempting as the swivel stools were, I figured that would not turn out to be a very wise decision. I saw many stools made from metal and wood. They came with or without backs, I could choose to have arms, I could even pick my own fabric in some cases.

I learned that when you are looking for a counter height bar stools, you should make sure you measure to get the correct height for where you will be placing it. If they are too short, you won’t be able to reach your food comfortably. If they are too tall, then you have to hunch over to eat. Taking your measurements with you when you shop is a big must.

It was on a trip to Walmart that I hit my stool jackpot one day. I was just wandering the aisles when there they were! I didn’t think they would have a stool I liked at Walmart to be honest. I thought the quality would be lacking but I was wrong. These stools were all wood with a cherry finish. They had no backs but slightly curved seats which made them both comfortable as well as visually appealing. They had a very classic, simple look to them. They looked liked they would be at home in a Pottery Barn catalog actually. However the price was definitely not Pottery Barn. Just $25 each! I could get all three for $75 and that was right about what I had hoped to spend.

I took the stools home after purchasing them and found that I had definitely made the right choice. The fit perfectly with the rest of the kitchen decor and the dining room. They did not swivel so they would be safe seating for the children. The height turned out to be exactly what we needed to be comfortable at the counter.

When we had guests over, they all made nice comments about the stools. They wanted to know where I got them and when I told them, they couldn’t believe it. They were all excited about the price too. Many of them went to Walmart searching for those stools. They wanted a good bargain too.

I got lucky that day at Walmart. The children can eat right at the counter and the dishwasher is right there for easy clean up. It makes it much faster and easier for preparing meals and for clean up after meals too. Clean up is nothing when you don’t have to dig crumbs from the cracks in the chairs and from the floor. The stools are easy to care for and easy to keep clean. This was one of the best purchases we have made for our new home.
