Like most other manufacturers Bassett now makes convertible cribs. The company’s latest collection owes much of its design inspiration from older American country styles. For, those who love simple, Cottage, New England or Shaker styles, Bassett Convertible cribs will pull at the heart strings.

Unlike many baby furniture manufacturers, the company still makes its cribs in the United States using only the finest hardwoods and craftsmanship. Inevitably, many parents won’t be buying a Bassett crib, but for those who like or yearn for good-old-fashioned, simple American furniture they will appreciate the designs of many of the Bassett convertible cribs.

An increasingly popular choice of crib is the convertible model. Its versatility and long-term cost savings really appeals and many parents just love the overall elegant look of this type of crib. The Rosalia Forever collection is a particularly beautiful crib. It has very traditional curvy legs and a straight-backed headboard with an elegant curve along the top. The side rails curve slightly outwards. There are plain slats on all four sides, with the side slats also curving outwards. What is very appealing about its overall design is the rounded rails found on all four sides; the rounded rails on the curvaceous side panels are extremely elegant. It comes in a variety of finishes including antique walnut, cherry, cinnamon, distressed white, matte white and natural.

The Hamptons is another restrained and elegant convertible crib by Sorelle. It is reminiscent of American colonial styling – straight, simple spindles, with straight foot and head rails. Although available in Autumn and Candle Light finishes, to my mind, this crib looks its best in a Cherry finish. The Mara 3-in-1 is a very beautiful sleigh crib and it comes with an underneath storage drawer though perhaps its most distinct feature is that it is on castors, which makes moving it about easy – I often wonder why most convertible cribs don’t come with castors; these are heavy pieces of furniture and moving them about isn’t always easy.

Bassett aren’t going to be to everyone’s liking. Surprisingly, the company has not come up with a broad range of designs. There are no European modern styles, like that found in Pali cribs. And, the designs, whilst being very traditional, lack the intricate and fancy detailing of manufacturers such as Munire Cribs. The company doesn’t really make cheap baby furniture either; instead, Bassett cribs occupy the mid-range price range.
